Jan 2026 MTM Conferences in Yangon and Taunggyi, Myanmar

Pastor Toe always does an amazing job of translating…in word and deed

This trip to Asia is one that I have been interested in participating in for some time. Merle Flory (“Pastor Merley” to the believers there) first asked several years ago but our family situation didn’t allow for it at that time. This time when Rich called, it seemed God was saying the time was right. After committing to go, I began to realize just how stretching the experience would be. This was certainly true for me, but the stretching was in a good way.

We spent our first week in Myanmar in the city of Yangon which has a population of nearly 6 million. The dense population is evident on the streets with lots of noise and considerable impact to their air quality. While there, we were blessed to fellowship with excited believers during a four day conference at Pastor Toe’s church. In attendance were pastors from various regions of the country who all were attentive and appreciative of the teaching. Due to the conflict within the country there were some from up north who were not able to attend though they would have liked to. Travel is just not feasible from those areas at this time.

Our Yangon Conference

The experience of teaching through an interpreter gave me a whole new appreciation for the way in which God has gifted His Body for His purposes. The gift of interpretation is an amazing thing! To listen to someone speak words in one language, process that mentally and then immediately give it to ready listeners in another language for hours on end looks daunting. We were blessed with men gifted in this way at each conference.

I was struck by the enthusiasm for worship among these dear believers and the commitment of the pastors to their individual congregations. Many of them are the sole leaders of their flocks and dedicate an immense amount of each week to the care and encouragement of the people God has placed them with.

Our second week was spent about 400 miles north in the town of Taunggyi. We started our week by participating in a church service at a small house church pastored by Stephen Blessing in the countryside on the outskirts of town. He and his wife also have a small children’s home there where they live. The Sunday service probably had less than 25 in attendance of which at least half were children under 12 years of age. Again, I was impressed with the joy and enthusiasm of their worship. The children shared memory verses and sang their hearts out.

Mike giving inspiring teaching on the glories of heaven

The next three days we held a conference in a nearby church building that Stephen Blessing had arranged. Again, this conference was well attended by pastors from various locations and numerous tribes were represented. Some drove quite a distance, possibly 6-10 hours, to be with us. It was truly humbling to see how much they appreciated our presence and how engaged they are in the Word. During some of the question and answer sessions we learned of some of their struggles and their commitment to teach truth to their congregations.

The brothers and sisters we interacted with at both locations (Yangon and Taunggyi) were a true joy. Their faith, hospitality, enthusiasm for the Word and joy in worship were a great blessing. As is so often typical when we minister other places, I believe I brought home more than I took. It is truly convicting to see how little they have and yet how well they reach out to their villages. We in America could learn a lot from them.

For Jesus sake in SE Asia…

Bethany and I had the privilege of spending two and a half weeks in southeast Asia with Rich and Nicole Moore in early November 2025. We began our trip in Myanmar. The day after arriving in Yangon, Myanmar, we flew almost a thousand miles north to a region called Putao. The Putao region is a collection of villages in a beautiful river valley surrounded by the majestic Himalayan Mountains. Due to the country being in the midst of a civil war, this area is very isolated; the only way to get there is by air. The only road accessing the rest of the country is closed due to the ongoing civil war. Shortages, high cost of goods, and isolation from the rest of the country and the world is the norm in this place. What we encountered once we arrived in Putao was beyond our imagination. The people who live in this area have not seen a tourist, much less an American since some time before Covid. Their fascination with us and their excitement in having visitors was overwhelming. Adults would go out of their way to try to help us, young people would come running wanting to take a picture and practice English with us, the children would lean out of home and school windows to shout and wave, then giggle and laugh as we responded. The friendliness and welcoming that we received from all the people was such a blessing and very much enjoyed. To our surprise, Christianity has a great presence in Putao. This area was evangelized in the 1950’s by an American family named Morse, who had the goal of training native pastors in what at that time was a small Christian presence. Today, seventy years later, churches and believers abound throughout the valley. The believers here think very highly of what this family accomplished by God’s grace. The churches and Christian schools sing from an American hymnbook brought and translated by this family, and the people eat and sell the grapefruit by the bushel that the Morse’s taught them to grow. Our first day in Putao was a Sunday. We went to a local church for services that morning and another that afternoon, with Rich teaching in the morning and I in the afternoon. That was followed by the next three days of conferences at yet another local church. Each day there were two teaching sessions in the morning, lunch together, then another two sessions in the afternoon. This conference was very well attended with about sixty men and twenty women. The rest of the week was spent touring and visiting in a number of different homes, churches and families. One of the highlights of the visiting was in the home of a Tibetan family. This family were practicing Buddhists, were poor beyond description, yet welcomed us with great hospitality, smiles, and refreshments. One of the refreshments was the opportunity to try a small piece of Caterpillar Fungi. This Tibetan man hunts for these fungi, often spending weeks away from home in the forest hunting for them. In China, Caterpillar Fungi sells for more than fifty thousand dollars per pound. To experience the warm friendliness of this family yet realizing that they are without hope in Christ is heartbreaking. Many of the local believers are very intent on reaching the Tibetan people with the good news of Jesus Christ, and my prayer is that this dear family will give their hearts to the Lord of all hope. The hunger for teaching and encouragement is overwhelming. One of the older pastors shared that this conference was the answer to many years of his prayers. Pleading for us and others to come back was a continual request with everyone we met. We hope their prayers for more to come will be answered soon, and sincerely hope that we too will get the opportunity to return to this beautiful valley, filled with warm, friendly, and excited brothers and sisters.

We concluded our time in Myanmar back in Yangon with a Sunday morning service and lunch at Pastor Toe’s church. This man, his family, and his church have such an infectious joy in Christ, it is truly humbling to realize the hardship and poverty surrounding their lives. Again, this is a place and a group of people that we hope to meet again someday, if not in Myanmar, then in the presence of Jesus Christ in Heaven. We then traveled to Phenom Phen, Cambodia where we had a two-day conference in the home/coffee shop of a Mennonite couple who live and teach there, then another one-day conference at a local church out in a village about three hours away. At both conferences we experienced believers, pastors, and teachers who were anxious to learn, asking many questions. It is difficult in this area of Cambodia for believers. Phenom Phen is a large busy city with lots of distractions and busyness for people to occupy themselves with. Cambodia is about 95% Buddhist, so there is lots of pressure to conform to the historical and familial religion, regardless of its hopelessness. Between the lingering effects of a society still trying to recover from the effects of Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge regime in the late seventies, the utter hopelessness of Buddhism, and some of the false teachings labeled as Christian, these brothers and sisters desperately need encouragement and instruction, and again pleaded for any who might return to do so. This trip was such a blessing for Bethany and I. To experience such different cultures, food, and lifestyles was fantastic. Rich and Nicole are wonderful leaders and make such a trip a real lifetime experience. Most importantly, to spend time with fellow brothers and sisters, recognizing we have so much in common in Jesus Christ was both humbling and encouraging. My prayer is that others would feel the call to go, to share and teach, and learn from these dear ones who live in a different world both literally and figurately. Thank you Lord, for this opportunity to go, thank you Lord for what Rich and Nicole, MTM and others are doing for believers all over the globe, and thank you Lord for these dear believers in Myanmar and Cambodia. – Chris & Bethany Miller The above article was written by Chris Miller of the Modesto German Baptist Brethren. Thank you, Chris and Bethany for giving of your time, talents and treasure for the meaningful work of pastoral teaching in SE Asia. We also extend deep gratitude to all those that help fund this work and send us by prayer and go with us in prayer. God is not unrighteous to forget your labor! – Rich & Nicole MooreP.S. You are welcome to reply directly to this email with words of encouragement for Rich and Nicole.

Both Vietnam Conferences were with Mennonite Brethren which includes Teaching, good Vietnamese food & fellowship

We were ready to head off to Vietnam for our first two Godly Marriage & Family life Conferences along with MTM staff teacher Rich & Nicole Moore, when I was unexpectedly informed of a significant change to our plans. Due to unfortunate difficult circumstances, our guest teacher for the Odisha Leadership Training School (OLTS), formerly called Odisha Bible School (OBS), had to cancel and was unable to join us. This meant all teaching for this two-week Bible School was my responsibility.

Due to the former oppositions and difficulties, we were not surprised when our Vietnam conferences also had trouble in the form of heavy rains and much flooding. This caused the second conference to be rescheduled and relocated. Furthermore, as we were wrapping up our second conference at Da Nang, we received news of a forth coming typhoon aimed straight at our region of Vietnam. Were we surprised? No, not really, but we knew we needed to depart Vietnam while we could and while airports were still operable. So, we changed our airline tickets and departed Vietnam two days earlier then before planned. We traveled on to India for the two-week leadership training conference at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. By now I knew God was up to something beyond the ordinary.

RKB DOING ALL THE TEACHING @ Odisha Leadership Training Seminar

This looked overwhelmingly huge to me until God so graciously reminded me that ‘Man’s Extremity is God’s Opportunity’!

As Naomi & I arrived in Delhi before traveling on to Bhubaneswar, we met David Miller from PA, who was traveling with us in India to cast a personal vision for a lifetime of missionary work. In Bhubaneswar the OLTS committee met us with a very warm greeting and showers of love and reception. The last time we saw each other was two years ago at the OBS 2023 we participated in. I shared with them the challenge I was facing of being the only teacher. I suggested I could teach two different subjects – one in the morning and another subject in the afternoon. The committee unanimously suggested I stick with one subject, and they will pray that God will give me inspiration, revelation, health, and strength to teach the subject of be “Being Practically Prepared for Christ’s Second Coming” along with prophetic Biblical revelations.

Yes, 2025 has been a very difficult year for me and Naomi, but God confirmed to us on this past fall ministry tour that His calling on our lives of making disciples for Jesus among the Nations is far from finished. The preaching & teaching intensity of the fall ministry tour was beyond anything we ever experienced before. I taught 3 sessions daily with each session being 1.5 hours in length. God, by His Spirit, faithfully gave revelations and insightful new messages. He graciously provided me with perfect health, strength & energy to preach & teach those sessions for the duration of the Leadership Training School. All this truly was beyond my human ability. Blessed be God!!! Everyone knew it was God & not Raymond. During the last message at OLTS, most of the students responded to the call to seek God in preparation for Christ’s Second Coming. Blessed be God!!

From Bhubaneswar we headed on to Berachah College (BIHER) in Himachal Pradesh, we are honored to be guest faculty. During their bi-annual Spiritual Enrichment week at the college, I previously only taught one 45-50 minute class per day. When Naomi & I arrived at the College, I was informed my schedule would be a morning class, an afternoon class, AND an evening class for 5 full days. Oh, yes, and the Sunday morning main message for the Berachah Church! Granted since all preaching and teaching at the college is in English and there is no need for an interpreter, my class sessions were only 35-45 minutes each. Once again, I was able to experience the grace and provision of my Lord Jesus Christ as He promises is in His Word:

The 9th annual Odisha Bible School was all planned and scheduled for February 17-28, 2025, our bags were mostly packed and our MTM ministry team was all but ready to fly to the other side of the world to preach and teach this much anticipated OBS event at Bhubaneswar, Odisha State of India. Within days of our departure the OBS committee messaged me and said we need to postpone OBS due to politically motivated persecution and unrest.

As the MTM ministry team leader I did some fast stepping phone calls to my team as well as to India to see where it would be safe & convenient to take my team to minister at potentially another Location. The BIHER college in North India that Naomi & I are guest faculty for the past 10+ years invited our MTM team to come there and facilitate a Spiritual Life week with enrolled students.

Cleason & Sheri Martin Had A Profound Music Ministry On This MTM Tour

Finally after totally rearranging our flight itinerary we departed for Delhi, India February 19th and on to BIHER College in Himachal Pradesh in far north India finally arriving February 21, 2025. We had 36 students at the BIHER college for a fast paced Spiritual Life Seminar. Come Friday February 28th it was story and rainy as we were scheduled to fly from Dharamshala to Kerala South India for a marriage enrichment seminar. Once again its not happening. Due to the weather our first flight was cancelled as we arrived at the airport.

After some more fast paced not happening rescheduling with the India train schedule online, we are taxied on to a train station 3-4 hours away on twisty curvy turnny stomach curling roads at breakneck speeds to meet our train. By evening we did safely reach Delhi totally exhausted and decided to spend the night there and complete our journey on further south to Kerala State of India tomorrow.

Finally, March 1st we arrived in Calicut in Kerala State of South India for our scheduled marriage enrichment seminar. Here again this event was marked with not sure what’s happening. This seminar was facilitated at a Catholic compound, and it seemed most every day we had to move to another conference room to facilitate our teaching event. The reason being the compound rooms had poor ventilation, and the rooms were stiflingly warm. Actually, one day we were out in the yard under a big old mango tree doing our marriage seminar, teaching anticipating cooler weather but there was no breeze, therefore we moved back inside. It simply seemed at every turn of the way we did not know what was happening or not happening. Click on the photo album link below to see all the photos and read the captions that will tell the whole story.

The Marriage & Family Enrichment Seminar In Kerala State Of South India

Nevertheless, we had multitudes of God moments at the marriage and family life seminar. One particular brother, with his wife seated on the chair and ready to wash his wife’s feet broke down and sobbed before her begging God and his wife for forgiveness pleading with God for mercy for the oft times he cursed his wife. Finally, he washed her feet sobbing and begging for her forgiveness. Many tears of joy and love were shed as God more deeply united many couples and two were made one in Christ Jesus.

We were blessed to travel to Cambodia with Rich and Nicole in November of 2024 to help with (4) 2-day conferences. We flew into Seim Reap and spent a couple of days there. One of the of highlights of being in Seim Reap was going to the Anabaptist Mission (Arising Light Organization) and see how they are helping the Christians in Cambodia. We also were blessed to worship with them on Sunday.
Our first Conference was in Sisophon. Several of the men from ALAM were able to attend that Conference, which made it fun to see familiar faces there. We pulled four topics out of Ephesians for our talks: “Sinners to Saints”, “One body, but Diversity in the Body”, “Relationships”, and “The Armor of God”.
We then traveled to Poipet, Kampong Thom, and Svey Reing for more Conferences. In Svey Reing we had a lot of older pastors. One was 80 years old and had served the Lord for over 30 years. This Conference was in a more remote area and seemed like they had a hunger for the Word.

Cry of Ishmael Conferences at a Remote Village, Nepal
November 9-12, 2024

Due to the governmental administration in India trying hard to make India a Hindu kingdom, M_______m people are migrating to the remote villages of the plain’s regions of Nepal. There is a native Nepale Pastor MTM, Raymond & Naomi Burkholder have been working with since nearly the beginning of the MTM ministry in 2008. More recently this Native Nepale Pastor has a passionate vision to win M________m people to Jesus Christ.

After I, taught Genesis at IGo Bible Institute, Chiang Mai, Thailand for 7+ years, I developed a teaching series entitled “The Cry of Ishmael” which focuses on God’s Heart from the Word of God for the salvation of the M_______m people world over.

In the process of time this Nepale Pastor heard of the MTM Cry of Ishmael teaching and requested I come to Nepal and teach this series among the churches he is working with in evangelism in the plain’s region of Nepal where these Muslim villages are situated. In honoring his request, we did the first “Cry of Ishmel” Conference in Nepal in the year 2016. Since then, we have facilitated a total of 3 “Cry of Ishmael” conferences in three different M_______m populated remote village regions in the plain’s region of Nepal. The most recent “Cry of Ishmael” Conference being conducted November 9-12, 2024, at another remote Village.

After this we traveled to Pokhara, Nepal to facilitate a requested Pastoral Leadership Conference, November 18-21, 2024 with another Nepale Pastor. He oversees a group of Pastors all over the different regions of Nepal. Many of the attending delegates traveled 3-4 days by foot & public bus from Humla & Jumla from the far northwestern regions of Nepal. My teaching subject was Profiles of Faith & Folly of the patriarchs of old in the book of Genesis. I was greatly intrigued and invigorated at these attendees’ hunger to hear God’s Word, day after day by sitting on the floor with no chairs or backs. I also had no MTM guest teacher to help with the teaching at both these Nepal Conferences. Therefore, I was teaching 3-4 teaching sessions per day with each Session being 1-1/2 hours in length. My heart was thrilled the way the Lord bore me up by His Spirit and we soared on wings of Eagles.
After the two different conferences in Nepal, we rested and resorted for a few days at a Himalayan hotel. Yes, resting and rejoicing in all that God had done in our hearts as well as what God accomplished in the hearts of all the attendees. Blessed be God! Then we traveled on to Himachal Pradesh to BIHLR for our annual Spiritual Enrichment Week. Raymond & Naomi Burkholder are guest faculty at this Institute. Pastor Ryan & Amanda Horst from Canada, joined us as guest teacher couple along with their three children for this annual teaching event. Presently there are approximately 46 students at this facility coming from many different states and regions of India. One of the highlights this year was, we had 15 students from the northern regions of Myanmar. This greatly thrills my heart. You see, there is a civil war raging in the northern regions of Myanmar where afore time MTM has facilitated conferences and 3-week Bible schools. Our coordinators there, desire to continue our MTM ministry in this region of Myanmar. But now it is unsafe for foreigners to travel there. BUT GOD remains jealous that MTM makes disciples for Jesus Christ in Myanmar. Therefore, He brings choice Brothers & Sisters out of Myanmar and migrates them to India to the BIHLR campus for discipleship Ministry training. All these students at this Institute, upon graduation are assigned to target a Gospel unreached people group to reach them for Jesus Christ to labor among them as evangelists, and then onto planting churches and serving as pastoral leaders and discipleship teachers & leaders. Blessed Be God Indeed!!!

This region of India is situated east of Nepal and on the western border of Bhutan. A very remote region of India with multitudes of Gospel unreached tribes of Nepalese speaking people. Once again, the presence of God was evidenced.
Ps. 68 clearly reveals when God Comes all needs are met and in vs. 6 we find in God’s Presence He sets the solitary (desolate or lonely) in families. And so it was on our MTM spring Tour in Vietnam and in India.

CLICK HERE TO READ GUEST TEACH JAY SMOKERS ARTICLE

At our first conference at Gylashing towards the end of the conference a local community Hindu man responded, requesting what must I do to be saved. What blessed evidence that Jesus Christ was lifted up and he was drawing the lost sinners unto Himself.
After the Gylashing Conference we drove the many hours of twisty windy unimproved roads in the Himalayan region from Gylashing to Gangtok where we conducted our annual Pastoral Priorities conference April 29-May 2, 2024. Pastors came from near and far of this region of India. One group travel for 10+ hours on a small city bus to come all the way from eastern Nepal. The pastors of this region of India/Nepal tell MTM that there is no other option for deeper inspirational Bible teaching other than what MTM provides. These are poorer village pastors with great hunger to hear the Word of God taught & preached.

CLICK HERE TO READ OUR MTM NATVE SIKKIM STATE COORDINATORS ARTICLE

Therefore, at the end of this annual conference which has been conducted for the past 4-5 years, the pastors requested that MTM would facilitate a one-month Bible school in the near future.
Raymond & Naomi Burkholder have by now been on the Gospel Discipleship ministry tour for 5 weeks. Therefore, we had scheduled a time of rest at the Beracha Life Center (Himachal Bible School & Seminary) at Palampur HP, India. But the Lord had other plans…

In the past 14+ years Raymond & Naomi have traveled & ministered over most all the different regions & states of India, but we have never been in the south where the Lord Jesus disciple Thomas first landed bringing the gospel to India in the first century. Thomas died there in south India as a martyr for Jesus Christ. The South India churches have sent out multitudes of missionaries. The founder & director of the Berachah Institute of Higher Education and Research (formerly HBCS) hosted us on tour to south India traveling by car and flight for one week.

Upon our return to the BIHER campus, we facilitated a two-week marriage enrichment seminar, May 13-24, 2024 at the BIHER Campus. With Steve & Savilla Fisher and their son Daniel (9) serving as the MTM Guest teacher family. Once again, we clearly observed the presence of God as we seen & heard public confessions of the Lord healing and restoring troubled & broken marriages. Blessed Be God!!!

Approximately two and a half years back, in July of 2021, our Vietnam MTM coordinator (let’s name him David) emailed us requesting we come and teach on the subject of the Godly marriage and the home & family. Finally, April 6th through April 21, 2024, MTM, Raymond & Naomi Burkholder we were able to lead a teaching team to Vietnam to honor his request. The teaching team included Ryan Nolt (a youth from our home church) along with Arlen & Sharon Krabill from Brownsville, Oregon, who all joined us as associate teachers. In our time there in Vietnam, MTM hosted three conferences in three different locations & with three different church groups of Vietnam with each conference being focused on Godly Marriages and family along with Godly parenting. We witnessed the presence of God evidenced in many different ways as souls were saved. As well as marriages enriched in Christ Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessed be God!!!

We spent the 1st week in Yangon,Myanmar. We enjoyed worshipping with Pastor Toe’s congregation on Sun. Monday we were back at his church for a 2 day conference. Then on Wednesday we went to Reaching the World Bible School for a 3 day conference. Each day was filled with 2 teaching sessions in the morning and 2 in the afternoon with a nice lunch and fellowship in between. We were encouraged to see their desire to grow and learn more from God’s word regardless if the electricity was on or off(powerpoint and fans) during the hot afternoons. Through their many smiles and appreciation there was a deep concern for their country and the civil war waging in the north. We spoke with one pastor who had fled to Yangon 2 weeks earlier with his young family, leaving behind his village in the hopes of preserving life. Since we have gotten home things have drastically changed for the dear people in Myanmar. On Feb 10th the military demanded mandatory service for unmarried men and women. This has brought much fear and despair for the future…..they are asking us to pray for them!

Four conferences in Myanmar and Cambodia

We were blessed to join Rich and Nicole Moore on a 2 week MTM trip to SouthEast Asia. It was a blessing for us to get to know them better. They did a wonderful job keeping us on track and on time with our busy schedule.

We spent the 1st week in Yangon, Myanmar. We enjoyed worshipping with Pastor Toe’s congregation on Sun.
Our 2nd week took us to Cambodia with our 1st conference in Kampong Thom for 2 days. Then on to Sisophon for another 2-day conference. We were so blessed to meet many precious souls in both countries who had the same common desire …to spread the GOSPEL and faithfully disciple new believers(many are 1st generation). Things we learned…. We heard and witnessed many pastors opening their homes and lives to displaced and vulnerable children. When we asked if they had support for this extra load they often said ” We pray and trust God”. We were challenged to apply this simple faith to our own lives at home! We learned the importance of praying for our interpreters as they willingly and carefully chose words to share the message in their mother tongue. We were the recipients of God’s protection and sustaining grace through your prayers on our behalf. This reminded us of the importance of intercessory prayer for the church around the world.

Please pray for our dear brothers and sisters in SouthEast Asia and the future work of MTM there. We left each conference hearing the words, “Please come back!” This time was truly a blessing for us and we certainly came home with more than the little we gave! To God be the Glory!
