Goroka, Papua New Guinea
June 25-28, 2019
In our world of unreached peoples and staggering need for discipleship, sometimes it is hard to know where to focus one’s efforts. As I ponder over the World and its immense spiritual needs, one thing seems to stand out to me as a clear priority; those asking for teaching and discipleship. When I learned about Raymond’s focus with MTM, it resonated with me. MTM’s focus is on answering the “Macedonian call.” There are people scattered across the globe who are ASKING for discipleship and teaching, and this is what MTM focuses on. That priority makes sense.
The illustration speaks for itself!
This past week (June 25-28), I had the privilege of going along with Raymond & Naomi to Papua New Guinea as they answered one such Macedonian call to teach Pastors at a conference in Goroka, PNG. I was impressed by the sincerity and interest of those who attended the conference. The theme was “Knowing Christ and Making HIM known.” There were times that there were questions raised during the teaching sessions, and Raymond would take time to stop and try to address the questions that were on peoples’ hearts as they listened.
One of my burdens & passions is to see the church world-wide being taught to observe the “oft-neglected” teachings of the New Testament, for example, things like non-resistance, head-covering for sisters & modesty in clothing… to name a few. So, you can imagine my delight on the final day of the conference as Raymond was preaching about the Holy Spirit being poured on ALL flesh and our sons and daughters prophesying. At the end of that point, he gave a caution that the Bible teaches that sisters should cover their heads when praying or prophesying. This raises questions in the minds of those listening, and they asked Raymond to dig deeper into that subject. So, for the very first time in their lives, they heard a sermon on this beautiful truth of the Christian women’s head covering. I loved it!
A GOD MOMENT RIGHT HERE. Pastor REX (a key voice for all the Pastors) requested I deviate from my topical teaching and teach an expository teaching of I Corinthians 11 on the headship veiling. BLESSED BE GOD!!!
Overall, I sensed that these pastors and future leaders of churches from different parts of PNG were inspired, encouraged and stirred in their spirit from teaching they received. They testified that their minds were opened in a new way to the scripture and they purposed to study and apply the scriptures with the help of the Holy Spirit. I sensed GOD at work in these dear people and have confidence that the work of MTM is a part of them embracing the “all things” that the New Testament teaches.
